Timeline

Application opens Tuesday, December 1, 2018 at 8:00 am eastern and closes Friday, March 15 at 8:00 pm eastern. All submissions must be completed and received accurately and according to the following instructions by the close date.  

Eligibility

Current Massaponax High School students who will receive a diploma in 2019 are eligible to compete.

Submission Requirements

1) Provide all requested personal and contact information on the Registration Form

Product

If you have a useful and novel solution to one of the scenarios, then create a product that includes:

1) A description of your solution and an explanation of how it and its components function.  There is no page limit. It does not have to be in the form of an essay, but the following format is recommended:

• A paragraph describing the entire product
• Bulleted notes describing the components (if any) and how they interact

2) A visual depiction of your solution. Any method that adequately shows the form and function of your solution and its components may be used, including but not limited to the following:

• Hand-drawn sketches/drafts
• Sketches/drafts created with a computer program
• Photographs 
• Videos – email to civiliansolutions@gmail.com with your name and scenario number in the subject line

Essay

1) Type a 1 to 2 page essay answering the following questions:

• What was your creative process while creating this product?
• Why is your product an effective solution to the problem?
• What role did your education have in influencing the design of your product?
• What future education would you need to in order to improve upon or make this idea a reality?

Format: 12 point, Times New Roman font, double spaced
